BT Deal Allows TV Via Games Consol

Microsoft has teamed up with BT to make television shows available via the Xbox 360.

All BT broadband customers will be able to get the BT Vision service using the games console later this year.

They will have access to a library of TV shows, sporting events and films on-demand.

The BT Vision service also gives access to "near live" FA Premier League football matches.

Dan Marks, chief executive of BT Vision, said: "For the first time consumers in the UK will be able to experience the advantages of an advanced TV service together with the benefits of next-generation gaming."

The service will be available to BT broadband customers via their Xbox 360 consoles by mid-2008.

BT Vision is already offered to customers with a broadband connection via a set-top box, known as the V-Box.

The Xbox 360 console will be able stream video on demand from BT Vision to television sets in the same way as the V-Box, but will not replicate all of the V-Box's functions.

Pricing for BT Vision via the Xbox 360 has yet to be announced.

Richard Bacon To Marry

BBC Radio Five Live presenter Richard Bacon is to marry his girlfriend later this month.

The former Blue Peter and Capital FM presenter will tie the knot with Rebecca McFarlane at celebrity venue Babington House in Somerset on January 17.

Richard, 33, who was sacked from Blue Peter 10 years ago for taking cocaine, met Rebecca while working at Capital, where she is the station's marketing manager.

Meanwhile, Bacon told his listeners he is to have a throat operation to treat a growth on his vocal chord.

"I'll be off work for four weeks and for the first two weeks I won't be able to speak - not a word," he said. "It couldn't sound more deathly boring."

He said a specialist had diagnosed a polyp, a non-cancerous growth, by putting a camera down his throat.

The host, whose voice sounds weaker on air, has been given steroids to help.

"I went to the ENT [ear, nose and throat] guy and he shoved a camera down my throat," the presenter said.

"I expected it to be the size of a pencil or something, actually it wasn't. It was about an inch wide.

"He dropped it down and I rejected it a few times in the way that you do when you put your fingers at the back of your throat. It really was quite an unpleasant process."

The doctor recorded the camera's findings and Bacon, who hosts the 2200-0100 slot from Mondays to Thursdays, has put a picture of his vocal chords on the Five Live website.

"Apparently they [polyps] are quite common. Mine is quite an acute one, hence why I think I have to have this operation," he said.

Inquest Opens Into Presenter's Death

The death of TV presenter Natasha Collins, fiancee of CBBC presenter Mark Speight, is thought to be "non-suspicious at this stage", an inquest has heard.

"But clearly the cause of death is unascertained and subject to further investigation," Detective Inspector Simon Whittaker said.

Speight was arrested on Thursday after finding Ms Collins dead in the couple's flat in north London.

He did not attend the hearing at Westminster Coroner's Court.

Speight has been bailed until the first week of February on suspicion of murder and supplying cocaine, which he has denied.

Yesterday, the Metropolitan Police said a post-mortem examination was "inconclusive" and further tests must be carried out on Ms Collins' body.

The couple met working together on the children's series See It Saw It.
