Celebrity Cash In The Attic

The BBC has commissioned a celebrity spin-off from BBC One's daytime series Cash In The Attic.

Michael Winner, Brian Conley, Donal McIntyre and John McCrirrick are among those to have signed for Cash In The Celebrity Attic, which will begin next month.

The celebrities are accompanied by friends or family members as they rummage for hidden treasures around their homes. Then their antiques and mementos are sold at auction for the benefit of the stars' nominated charities. Macmillan Cancer Support, Water Aid, Born Free and Mencap are among the registered charities.

Additionally, the BBC has signed up for a 14th season of  of Cash in the Attic for broadcast in the summer.

Both the celebrity version of the series and the regular edition will be fronted by the normal roster of presenters: Lorne Spicer, Alistair Appleton, Jennie Bond, Angela Rippon and Gloria Hunniford. Jules Hudson comes on board for the 14th season of Cash in the Attic, fresh from his stint on BBC Two's Escape to the Country. Meanwhile, antique valuations are provided by James Rylands, Paul Hayes, Jonty Hearnden and John Cameron.

Problems For Gladiators Revival

Technical problems and injuries are reported to have hit Sky One's revival of Gladiators.

The first show is scheduled to be recorded tomorrow at Shepperton Studios in Surrey for transmission in May.

A number of games are reportedly being changed because of health and safety concerns.

Tempest, otherwise knows at 19-year-old Lucy Boggis from Wiltshire, slipped from a suspension bridge and was seen with blood pouring from her mouth.

It is understood that in one incident a contestant travelled down an aerial runway and landed on the floor, rather than a crash mat.

One of the pieces of equipment used in the final Eliminator competition is said to have been changed because of fears a contestant might be squashed by it.

Another game called Earthquake - which resembles a wrestling ring on a high platform - is also thought to be under review because of fears about what might happen if two people fell off on to the crash mats together.

Mark Speight Series To Continue

The BBC has decided to push ahead with plans to produce a new series of children's art show SMart, despite the death of previous host Mark Speight.

Speight, 42, was found hanged on April 13, having been depressed following the drug-related death of fiancée Natasha Collins, who also appeared on the show.

Speight resigned from the show in February shortly before a new series went into production. A new presenter has yet to be named.

Bruce Forsyth - Top Bafta Award

Veteran presenter Bruce Forsyth will receive Bafta's highest honour at its TV awards ceremony, which is being held at the London Palladium on Sunday.

Bafta said the Academy Fellowship, which will be given to him by Paul Merton, was in recognition of Forsyth's "outstanding body of work".

Committee chair John Willis called the 80-year-old performer "the ultimate all-round entertainer".

"He has been keeping viewers of all ages entertained for decades," he said.

Willis said it was the "perfect time" to honour Forsyth, who celebrated his birthday in February.

Previous recipients of the honour include Ken Loach, Anne Coates, Richard Curtis and Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Forsyth began his career at the age of 14 after an agent put him forward to present Sunday Night at the London Palladium.

He went on to front a host of programmes including The Generation Game, Play Your Cards Right and The Price is Right.

TV Chef To Appear In Emmerdale

TV chef Antony Worrall Thompson is to appear in Yorkshire soap Emmerdale.

The restaurateur will play himself as part of celebrations to mark the show's 5,000th episode.

Worrall Thompson, 56, appears as a judge at the fiercely-contested Pub of the Year competition.

Woolpack chef Marlon Dingle, played by Mark Charnock, attempts to impress Worrall Thompson with his cooking, but his efforts go awry.

The scenes were filmed yesterday for transmission in June.

Worrall Thompson said: "I'm a big fan of 'Emmerdale' and had a great time in the Woolpack putting Marlon through his paces."

Series producer Anita Turner said: "We were delighted that Antony was available to make this cameo appearance for us in what is going to be a fun-filled episode to celebrate the 5,000 landmark."

Trisha Inspired By Kylie

Talk show host Trisha Goddard said she has been inspired by Kylie Minogue in her fight against breast cancer.

The 51-year-old presenter said in a newspaper interview she found the singer's recovery a comfort when she was diagnosed with the illness herself.

She said: "Thank God for Kylie. I'd read so much about her and it was really, 'Well hang on girl, she's all right'.

"Misfortune happens and there's nothing written anywhere that it shouldn't happen to me. But I was a bit overwhelmed. There is that fear about not seeing your daughters grow up."

At first the presenter wanted to keep her illness secret from husband Peter and daughters Billie, 18, and Madison, 13, but later decided to come clean.

The operations have been successful but Goddard may have to continue treatment as a precaution.
