Community Station Breaches Regulations

Media regulator Ofcom has found Eastleigh-based community station Skyline FM in breach of its broadcasting rules.

In February the regulator received a complaint from a listener who claimed that an interview with his daughter was in breach of the fairness and privacy rules in the broadcasting code.

Skyline FM was unable to provide a copy of the programme when requested by Ofcom because its logging system failed to record the station's output.

Ofcom said in its latest complaint's bulletin: "In the absence of a recording we were unable to consider the complaint put forward
in this case.

"It is a condition of Skyline FM’s licence that recordings of output are retained for 60 days after transmission, and that they must provide Ofcom with any such material upon request.

"Failure to supply this recording is a serious and significant breach of the broadcaster’s licence. This will be held on record."

Gaydio In Waiting

The gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual community in Manchester will have to wait a while to see if they will have their own community radio station.

Gaydio, which has provided programmes for the community via three restricted service licences (RSL), are waiting to hear from Ofcom to see if their application for a full-time licence has been successful.

Seven community radio groups have applied to operate stations in the Manchester area and it was hoped that by now the successful applicants would have been announced.

Ofcom said it was looking at the available frequencies in the Manchester area and it was unlikely all applicants would be successful.

Gaydio however, plans to return to the air for a month on August 11 with its fourth RSL.

Coronation Street Actor In Bill Role

Former Coronation Street actor Rupert Hill is set to star in a four-part special of The Bill.

Hill, best-known for his role as Jamie Baldwin in the ITV1 soap, will play Kieran Wallace, a dangerous thug who is part of a major gun-running gang.

Of his new role, Hill said: "It makes a change to play such a vicious character. Alex Walkinshaw and I filmed scenes during match day at Millwall Football Club – a fantastic opportunity, and called for some complicated filming, but it was a lot of fun!"

Gun Runner will be shown on ITV1 at the beginning of July 2008.

Trisha Goddard Wanted Illness Secret

Chat-show host Trisha Goddard has told how she was "ogled" while in hospital being treated for breast cancer.

Goddard, 50, said a "downside" of fame was that even in hospital celebrities were "fair game".

She said she would have preferred it if hardly anyone had known that she was ill.

Goddard, who presents the channel Five show Trisha, announced that she had cancer three weeks ago.

"A downside of being in the public eye is that even if you're wearing a patient ID and you're in a hospital department having tests you're still fair game," she wrote in a column for a weekend magazine.

"Who cares that you seem terrified out of your wits?

"There are people who will still ogle and scream out your name, not registering that being in a public hospital very early in the morning means you're either visiting a sick loved one or actually sick yourself."
