Sir Cliff Was Nobbled
Sir Cliff Richard was robbed of victory in the 1968
Eurovision Song Contest due to vote rigging by General Franco's fascist
regime, a documentary has claimed.
The British singer's tune Congratulations was beaten to the top spot by
Spanish entrant Massiel in order to boost the country's international image,
a film-maker said.
Sir Cliff's song had been a favourite with the judges during the competition
held at the Royal Albert Hall, but lost out on the title by just one point
following a last minute rally in votes for Spain.
In a documentary aired on Spanish TV on Sunday night, director Montse
Fernandez Vila claimed Spain's win was "bought" by corrupt executives
working for state-run television.
Ms Fernandez Vila told Spanish newspaper 20 Minutos that executives
travelled round Europe pledging to buy series from other nations to help
steer the voting.
She said there was evidence that Franco thought a win would help improve the
Spanish regime's international standing.
Despite coming second to Massiel's La La La, Congratulations went on to
become a UK number-one hit for Sir Cliff in 1968 and topped the charts in
many other countries.

Australia's Logie
Awards
Kate Ritchie has triumphed at the 50th TV week Logie Awards
in Australia.
The Home And Away star was awarded the Gold Logie for most
popular personality for the second year in a row, and also took the prize
for most popular actress.
Ritchie's chances were boosted by the major storyline that
surrounded the departure of her character, Sally Fletcher, from Home And
Away, which included the discovery of a twin brother. It generated much
media coverage during the voting period for the awards.
Bindi Irwin - daughter of tragic Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin
- was named most popular new female talent for Bindi: The Jungle Girl, while
popular comedy Kath + Kim won the most popular light entertainment show at
the ceremony in Melbourne's Crown Casino.
Irish pop group Westlife also performed at the event, which honours the best
in Australian television from the previous year.

Early Summer Of Soccer
BBC One and ITV1 will be screening between them 27 live
soccer games from June 7 to 29 despite the absence of England and Scotland
in Euro 2008.
Many of these matches will kick-off at 19:45, requiring the
rescheduling of a number of primetime shows, including EastEnders.
ITV1 has already upset viewers by shelving episode two of the
new US series Pushing Up Daises to make way for the tournament.

You would have thought that in this day & age, the BBC
would have the put all the sport on either BBC Three or BBC Four so they
don't have to interrupt scheduled programming on their main two channels.

All very well saying BBC 3 and 4 but what about people who
can't receive Freeview or can't afford Sky

There is absolutely almost no football on mainstream
television.
There are more movies on BBC1, 2, ITV1, C4 and C5 in one 24 hour period
than there will be live football on BBC1 and ITV1 during the whole of the
Euro championships.
Why can't the soaps put on BBC3 and 4!
