Wuthering Heights On
ITV
ITV is to screen a television version of Wuthering Heights
with Tom Hardy in the Heathcliff role.
Newcomer Charlotte Riley is Cathy in the ITV adaptation of
Emily Bronte's famous 1847 novel.
The production has been described as an "edgy, cool and raw" version of the
love story and it's even thought that a distraught Heathcliff will kill
himself on hearing the news of Cathy's death.
It also stars Sarah Lancashire as housekeeper Nelly and Andrew Lincoln as
Edgar, Cathy's forlorn husband.
Executive producer Damien Timmer said: "Wuthering Heights is one of the
greatest love stories in literature. We've assembled a first class team to
capture all of the novel's rawness and passion."
Writer Peter Bowker said: "I was thrilled to be asked to adapt one of the
great English novels. In Charlotte Riley I believe we have found the perfect
Cathy, and Tom Hardy has the power and charisma to be the definitive
Heathcliff."

Fern Britton
Stays With ITV
Fern Britton has signed a deal with ITV to remain with the
broadcaster for a further two years.
An ITV spokesman however, refused to comment on speculation about the This
Morning host's pay deal, saying that it was a "private matter".
Earlier this week the Daily Mail reported that Britton had a £700,000 a year
deal which would remain unchanged.
Britton said she was "delighted" to be continuing with the daytime show and
exploring "new opportunities" with ITV.
Dianne Nelmes, ITV Productions' head of daytime and lifestyle programmes,
said: "Fern and Phillip Schofield are simply the stars of daytime and I am
delighted they will be presenting the show together for a long time to
come."

Julie Walters
In New BBC Drama
Julie Walters is set to star in A Short Stay In Switzerland
for BBC One, a drama inspired by the true story of Dr Anne Turner by
writer Frank McGuinness.
Kate Harwood, Controller, Series and Serials, BBC Drama Production, said:
"One of Ireland's foremost dramatists, Frank brings a lightness of touch,
dark wit and a heart-wrenching humanity to this piece inspired by Anne
Turner's story about life and death, love and family."
Having just witnessed the death of her husband Jack from an incurable
neurological disease, Anne Turner (Julie Walters) is diagnosed with a near
identical illness.
Writer Frank McGuinness said: "As a doctor Anne Turner lived and worked by
her principles, and she chose to die by them. This film recognises that rare
courage."
Filming in London from August 2008 for transmission in winter 2009.

Another Community Radio Station Closes
Radio Cardiff has become the latest community radio
station to closedown, just 10 months after launching in the Welsh capital.
The station has blamed a delay in funding from the Welsh Assembly Government
and Cardiff County Council for the closure.
A Welsh Assembly Government spokesman said: “Cardiff Radio
has made no application for funding from Communities First this financial
year.
“We have previously provided funding for the station. However, although we
have been in frequent contact with the Communities First partnership about
this issue in recent months no formal application for further funding has
been received.”
Less than a month ago, London station TGR was forced to close due to
financial difficulties.
Radio Cardiff began broadcasting with a five year Ofcom licence on October
8, 2007.

Car Crash Drama For
ITV
ITV’s director of television, Peter Fincham, has ordered his
first drama from an independent production company since joining the
broadcaster in May this year.
Fincham has commissioned Foyle’s War writer Anthony Horowitz to pen
Collision, a five-part series to be made by Greenlit Rights.
It tells the story of a group of strangers whose lives are changed by a
major road accident.
ITV said the serial would feature the “largest collision ever shot in the UK
for TV” and added that the drama ends with “a devastating twist that will
show all this death and mayhem was caused by the tiniest and most
insignificant detail”.
Fincham said: “I’m delighted to be commissioning this new serial from the
creators of Foyle’s War. This is a high-octane event drama that combines
creative and original thinking with mass appeal. It promises to be both
provocative and engaging.”
