Nigel Lythgoe Steps
Down
Nigel Lythgoe has confirmed he is stepping down from American
Idol.
The English producer, who has been with the show since it began in 2002,
said that he was leaving to pursue a new venture with his Idol producing
partner, Simon Fuller.
"Due to the huge success of So You Think You Can Dance, my summer will be
taken up by travels to South Africa, Australia, and Canada to work on local
versions of the show," he said in a statement.
"I will step back from my day-to-day producing work on American Idol and
will be devoting my time to a new venture with Simon Fuller."
But he admitted that leaving would be difficult.
"It's like giving birth to a baby and letting it go. Just talking about it
is tough," he continued.
However, the 59-year-old insisted that he will continue to work his
producing and judging duties on So You Think You Can Dance, the reality
dance show he co-created with Simon in 2005.
