Big Figures For
BBC's Olympics
The BBC said its coverage of the Olympic Games has reached 40
million.
The BBC today said a total of about 40 million people in the UK have watched
at least 15 minutes of the Beijing Olympics - up from 32 million last week.
Despite the time difference between the UK and Beijing, the Games have been
a big hit for the corporation.
BBC Sport director Roger Mosey said: "In the same way that Team GB has
massively exceeded expectations, so have the audience figures. We predicted
30 million and privately hoped for about 35 million, so to get to 40 million
even before the closing ceremony is terrific."
The Games have been such a success that the BBC One schedule has been
cleared on Monday afternoon for a special programme fronted by Kate
Silverton called Olympics Heroes Return.
As well as broadcasting the Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday at noon, the
BBC is airing the London 2012 Party Live at 15:15 in which Beijing hands
over to London.
