Emmerdale Actor
- Rape Trial Emmerdale actor Ben Freeman
raped a girl of 16 hours after meeting her and her family on
holiday, a court in Barbados was told yesterday.
Freeman, 28, is said to have attacked the British
schoolgirl on a sun lounger at their Barbados hotel as she wept and
pleaded for him to stop.
He had met the British girl and her family hours
earlier, then pounced on a Barbados hotel pool lounger when they
were alone.
Prosecutor Charles Leacock said: “He lifted her
out of the pool and placed her in one of the lounge chairs. He
proceeded to have sex with her without her consent.
“She will tell you she protested and cried and
begged him not to.”
Her father found her “crying hysterically” and
confronted the actor, swapping blows, Leacock said.
Leacock said they knew him from television and
were “intrigued in meeting a celebrity”. The actor saw them again at
a club in the complex and left after midnight, the trial heard.
The girl and her father later joined him by a
pool, where Freeman playfully pushed the older man into the water,
the prosecutor said.
After the father left, staff told the couple off
for being noisy so they went to a second pool, jurors heard.
Leacock alleged: “They were swimming when the
complainant says the accused made advances by kissing her on the
lips. She will tell you she protested his advances.”
Freeman is then said to have taken her on to a
lounger to carry out the attack. He was charged with rape the
following day.
Moments after the alleged assault another hotel
guest photographed the pair on the lounger, the trial in Barbados
capital Bridgetown heard. He will give evidence next week.
Yesterday he looked calm as he formally denied the
charge in front of five men and four women jurors.
His alleged victim, from Cheshire, is due to give
evidence on Monday. The trial continues.
