Pushing Daisies

The second series of the popular American whimsical drama Pushing Daisies starts on ITV1 on Saturday, January 30 in the 22:00 slot.

Narrated by Jim Dale, the tale describes how Young Ned, played by series star Field Cate, discovered that he could return the dead briefly back to life with just one touch. But, as he soon finds out, his gift is not without consequences, and he quickly learns the rules.

In the second season premiere, Chuck goes undercover as a "Bee Girl" at a honey-based cosmetics company after their new spokesmodel, palyed by Autumn Reeser, is stung to death. Chuck soon discovers that office politics are killer - literally - between the founder, Betty Bee, played by Missi Pyle, and the new owner, Woolsey Nicholls.

Meanwhile, Ned can't stand Chuck's growing independence - or the fact that she wants to move out of his apartment. And Lily spirits Olive off to a nunnery so she won't spill Lily's deep, dark secret.

Tom Cruise On Jonathan Ross

Tom Cruise will appear on Jonathan Ross's comeback TV chat show, the BBC said today.

There had been a great deal of speculation that the Hollywood star had turned down an invitation to take part because of the presenter's part in the Andrew Sachs lewd phone calls row.

But it has been confirmed that Cruise will join previously-confirmed guests Stephen Fry and Lee Evans when Friday Night With Jonathan Ross returns to BBC One on January 23.

Franz Ferdinand will also perform their new single, Ulysses, live in the studio.

Cruise has not appeared on the chat show before, although Ross has previously interviewed him for his BBC film programme.

Jade Goody

Former Big Brother contestant Jade Goody has revealed that she has turned to God to help her cope with cervical cancer.

The 27-year-old has said she has a 40 per cent chance of surviving the disease.

She has lost her hair and is wearing a scarf on her head after undergoing chemotherapy.

In an interview with a newspaper, Goody said: "I've always thought there's a God although I've never been a churchy kind of person but now I think, Why not go to church? I've got a version of the Bible which is easy to read and I look through it when I'm feeling down. It really helps.

"And I've always prayed but now I do find it helps. Maybe the big man upstairs thinks, she's a tough cookie, she can handle this. She's watched her dad inject heroin, watched her mum do crack, she's lost a baby, had boyfriends who've hit her. Yeah, she can handle this too.

"But I do think after this is over, God might think I've had more than my fair share to deal with."

Goody was taking part in the Indian version of Big Brother last year when she discovered she had cervical cancer.

The Bermondsey-born star flew home after show producers called her to the Diary Room to break the news.

She was previously given a 50-50 chance of survival and had to undergo a hysterectomy after learning that the cancer had spread to her womb.

Takei Still Waits For Shatner Invite

Actor George Takei has laughed off rumours that he considering appearing on former Star Trek co-star William Shatner's new US chat-show Shatner's Raw Nerve, insisting he has not even been invited.

Takei said: "Bill hasn't invited me. I only heard about the show a few days ago and when I did, I thought to myself, 'Aha! He's trying to create controversy again'. Well, I'm not going to bite the bait!"

The pair has had a strained relationship over the years, and the feud erupted in 2008 when Shatner claimed he had been left off the guestlist for Takei's  wedding to longterm partner Brad Altman.

Takei fired back, claiming Shatner had been invited to the nuptials - but failed to Rsvp or attend the same-sex ceremony.

Shatner then responded by posting a rant on YouTube in which he unveiled plans to put an end to the dispute once and for all- by inviting Takei onto his talk show.

But Takei alleges Shatner failed to follow through with his invite plans - even though he had never agree to appear on the programme anyway.

CNN International On Freeview

News channel CNN International is joining the Freeview digital TV service from Thursday, just in time for the inauguration of new US president Barack Obama.

The channel will air on Freeview 84 seven days a week between the hours of 21:00 and 01:00.

Adding Freeview's 13.8 million TV homes will bring Atlanta-based CNNI's UK distribution to more than 20 million households. CNNI is already available on Sky, Virgin Media and Tiscali.

As part of its Freeview launch night programming, CNNI will air a one-hour special on the Middle East, entitled The Middle East Challenge, at 22:00, in which reporter Hala Gorani travels through the region to investigate the underlying issues creating roadblocks to economic and political progress.

CNN said its move on to Freeview was an "acknowledgement that consumer demand for world news and feature stories with global perspective is acute and growing amongst the UK audience".

Tony Maddox, the CNNI executive vice-president and managing director, added: "UK viewers will be able to enjoy not only our signature global news and feature programming but also a new slate of new programmes we're developing for Europe prime time."

Blue Peter Olympic 50p Competition

Blue Peter viewers are being given the chance to design a 50p piece to mark the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.

The winner of the BBC competition, open to those aged between six and 12, will be the first child to see their work featured on a UK coin in circulation.

The athletics-themed coin will be issued by the Royal Mint in 2010.

In the past Blue Peter viewers have designed stamps, an airline livery and the cover of the Radio Times.

Blue Peter editor Tim Levell said: "This is the first time the Royal Mint has given a child the guaranteed chance to design a circulation coin, so this really is making history."

The winner, who will be notified in October 2009, will also receive a gold version of their design and an invitation to see it being turned into coins at the Royal Mint in Llantrisant.

The Blue Peter competition is open to UK residents aged between six and 12 at midnight on the closing date of 2 March 2009.

Entries need to be submitted on an official template which can be downloaded from the programme's website or obtained by post.

The "tails" side design cannot feature an image of a recognisable real person, whether alive or dead, or the Olympic rings.

The entries will be seen by a panel of judges made up of independent experts, and representatives of the Royal Mint, the BBC, London 2012 and the International Olympics Committee.

They will be split into three age groups and a top entry selected from each. A winning selection will then be made before being passed on to the Royal Mint Advisory Committee, the Treasury and the Queen for formal approval.

Presented by Olivia Lee, The Sexy Ad Show showcases some of the raciest, most politically incorrect and barely broadcast-able commercials to have been produced.

The hour-long programmes will be transmitted first on Fiver and later on Five.

The Sexy Ad Show will uncover an array of controversial commercial messages including an ejaculating Action Man, an Optician who uses sadomasochistic sex to sell spectacles, a Granny using a sex toy to advertise a bank and a family blowing each other up to sell beer.

Hannah Barnes, Director of Programmes for Fiver and Five US, said: “I am thrilled to have The Sexy Ad Show for Fiver. The series is very risqué and funny, and perfectly illustrates the unconventional views of the Advertising world. I am delighted to have Olivia Lee as the presenter, her irreverent style will ensure that the series has a strong appeal for the discerning Fiver viewer.”
