Community Radio Presenter Sacked

A presenter on Ujima Radio, a community station in Bristol, has received a warning from Ofcom after airing offensive homophobic comments.

The station has since terminated the volunteers contract.

One of the presenters was referring to a story in a local newspaper when he aired his own thoughts on the matter. He talked about issues relating to black homosexuals. He referred to homosexuality as a "pestilence" and claimed that "the most right thinking" people thought it was not natural.

One listener complained to Ofcom that the presenter's comments were offensive to the gay community.

In a statement, Ofcom said: "In general, offensive material can be broadcast, so long as it is justified by the context. Given factors such as the service on which the material is broadcast; the degree of harm or offence likely to be caused by the inclusion of the material; and the likely expectation of the audience, Ofcom considered that the broadcast of this offensive material was not justified by the context. Therefore, the material went beyond generally accepted standards for this type of programme and breached Rule 2.3 of the Code."

Ujima Radio said that as a consequence of the complaint the station terminated the presenter’s volunteer contract and broadcast an on-air apology the following week.

Hollyoaks Actress To Film Final Scenes

The 27-year-old Hollyoaks actress Zoe Lister - who has played  film studies student Zoe Carpenter on the Channel 4 soap since 2006 - will film her last scenes in December, it has been revealed.

Speaking about her decision to leave the programme, Lister said: "It's scary but also very, very exciting. I think three years in a soap is enough and you get to a point where you either make a decision that this is what you do or you want to try something different.

"I think that when you're an actor you don't imagine yourself in the same job for years so I think when you get to do a job for a few years you start thinking 'hang on, what am I doing this for?' "

Lister recently revealed her shock at discovering she would have to shoot a lesbian love scene with her co-star Loui Batley, who plays student Sarah Barnes.

She said: "I thought it was hilarious when I found out! I thought it'd be interesting, though. It was completely mental filming them. Loui and I just had a massive attack of the giggles.

“I think the crew were more embarrassed than we were. We were kind of ignored for the day."

Gordon Ramsay Trouble Down Under

Gordon Ramsey Trouble Down Under
Gordon Ramsay said today insulting comments he made about an Australian presenter were "blown out of context".

The Hell's Kitchen star appeared on A Current Affair, a TV show hosted by high-profile journalist Tracy Grimshaw.

After an uneventful appearance on the show, the British chef attended a food and wine tasting event in Melbourne, where he stunned the audience by unleashing a string of insults at Grimshaw in her absence.

He called her a lesbian and likened her to a pig. He then repeated the insults the following two days at the same food exhibition, although he later said he was only joking.

Chapman retaliated on her programme, calling the chef an "arrogant narcissist" and a "bully".

She continued her attack in a radio interview during which she said Ramsay would not be invited back on her programme. "I'm not interested in speaking to the bloke again," Tracy told Fairfax Radio. "I can't imagine any circumstances where I would want to interview him again."

Ramsay told Nine News his comments had been "blown out of context".

The Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd later described Gordon as a "new form of lowlife" in the wake of the comments.

"I think I can describe his remarks as reflecting a new form of lowlife," Rudd told Fairfax radio. "I just drew breath when I saw the sort of stuff which was said about her, I just think that's off and offensive. Good on Tracy Grimshaw for coming out and giving him a left uppercut."

Jack Tweed Hopes To See Jade

Jade Goody's widower Jack Tweed has told a magazine that he leaves his window open every night hoping to catch a glimpse of her and he is "not interested" in looking for a girlfriend.

Tweed married Jade Goody shortly before she died of cancer Tweed, of Buckhurst Hill, Essex, married Goody shortly before her death from cancer.

He told OK! magazine: "I don't want a girlfriend. Jade said she'd want me to find someone, but it's not something that's crossed my mind. I don't want a relationship, I haven't thought about it."

Tweed said he would love to be buried in the same plot as Goody "so we could be together forever".

He added: "I leave the window open every night just hoping that I can see her or hear her, but I haven't."

He said that whenever he saw Goody in the newspapers, "I kiss my finger and I kiss the picture but I don't talk to her...

"I miss her so much. I felt so heartbroken that she was no longer there. I just cannot believe she's not here any more."

Tweed was freed from prison last month after serving half of a 12-week sentence imposed in April for assaulting a taxi driver.

Speaking about his presenting ambitions, Tweed said he recently shot a role in a film called Just For The Record, starring Rik Mayall.

He said he played a DJ at a party and had "a right laugh, but I'd like to have some acting lessons".

James Nesbitt

James Nesbitt has said he is considering turning to the United States for work as the recession-hit British TV industry is in "desperate" straits.

Speaking to the Radio Times about Hollywood, Nesbitt said: "I could have gone there years ago, but the notion of waiting six months to play a baddie in a bad film just wasn't my idea of career utopia.

"I was challenged here, I enjoyed what I was doing but the British TV industry is in a desperate state - not creatively but financially."

He went on: "So I've gone with an American agent and, well, we'll see what happens."

The actor stars in the BBC One Iraq war drama Occupation, which debuts next week.
