Just William
Back At The BBC
Men Behaving Badly writer Simon Nye is to adapt Richmal
Crompton’s Just William books for the BBC, marking the third time the
Corporation has adapted the stories.
The new series will be transmitted in 2010 on Sunday afternoons, and is a
CBBC production for BBC One. It follows on from two previous Just William
series made for the BBC - one in the sixties and another in the nineties.
Meanwhile, CBBC has also commissioned a comedy called Big Babies, which
combines live action, puppetry and CGI.
The 26-part comedy series is about two babies with the heads of grown men
which will air next year, with Sharon Horgan, who wrote and starred in
Pulling on BBC3, acting as programme consultant.
CBBC Controller Anne Gilchrist said: “These new commissions reflect the
originality and diversity of the CBBC schedule and reinforce our commitment
to working with the most innovative new and established creative British
talent around.”

Blake 7 Actor
Joins Emmerdale
Former Blake 7 actor Paul Darrow has joined the cast of
Emmerdale.

style on a motortrike on July 13.
"I am delighted to be appearing in Emmerdale," Darrow said
"My character Eddy's going to be great fun to play. I'll get to ride around
the Dales on my trike in my leathers. I'll be like Marlon Brando.
"I'm also really looking forward to catching up with my old pal Richard
Thorp (aka Alan Turner). We used to work together way back on Emergency Ward
10."
Darrow, 68, played rebel Kerr Avon in Blake's 7.

Del Boy Is Coming Back
Del Boy is returning to BBC One, but as a teenager, it was revealed today.
Only Fools and Horses creator John Sullivan has written a
90-minute prequel cantered around Derek Trotter’s early years.
Sex, Drugs & Rock ‘n’ Chips will be set in Peckham in 1960, where Joan
Trotter is unhappily married to workshy Reg Trotter and looking after her
son. But the reappearance of art connoisseur Freddie Rodbal after ten years
in prison, is set to shake up her world.
Del Boy’s cohorts Boycie, Trigger, Denzil and Jumbo Mills will also appear
as teenagers.
John Sullivan said: “It will be set in the real Sixties, before The Beatles
and Mary Quant made London the coolest place on the planet.
“The drama will feature South London at its least glamorous, where money was
scarce, the staple diet was rock salmon and chips, and the flicks offer the
only hint of glamour. And it will give us a bit of an insight into why Del
and Rodney turned out they way they did.”
Filming starts in London next month for transmission next year.

BBC Axes Robin Hood
The BBC's adaptation of Robin Hood will not return for a
fourth series, the corporation confirmed today.
The BBC One show, which starred Jonas Armstrong, saw the legendary outlaw
killed off in Saturday's finale.
A BBC spokesman said: "With the death of Robin, we feel that the show has
reached its natural conclusion."
Armstrong announced his intention to quit the drama before
the 13-part third series was screened, saying: "It's been a great thrill, a
great ride, but you can't play one part forever."
Producers of the drama, which was filmed on location in Hungary, kept the
nature of Robin's departure a closely-guarded secret.
The hero met his end in a showdown with arch-villains, the Sheriff of
Nottingham and Guy of Gisbourne.
He was murdered by a poison-tipped sword, after killing his nemesis the
Sheriff.
