Karen Hardy
To Stay In Strictly
Strictly Come Dancing's Karen Hardy is likely to stay in the
show, in a new role, the BBC said.
The corporation has been at the centre of a new ageism row
after it was reported that 39-year-old Hardy and other experienced
professionals were being replaced by dancers in their 20s for the new
series.
The news followed the controversy over the decision to oust Arlene Phillips,
66, from the judging panel on the BBC One show in favour of former winner
Alesha Dixon.
Hardy, who won with cricketer Mark Ramprakash in 2006, said: "I've enjoyed a
great four years on Strictly Come Dancing and I'm discussing new ways I can
be both involved in the show this year and pursue a number of exciting
projects and opportunities that have come my way."
A BBC spokesman said: "The decision to change Karen's role has absolutely
nothing to do with age. It was a mutual decision between her and the BBC.
"She's been a fantastic dancer on Strictly for the past four years and we
are in discussions with her as to what her new role will be in this year's
series."

BBC
Presenter Convicted Of Assault On Boy
A BBC presenter accused of hitting a boy with a wooden pole
has been found guilty of unlawful wounding and perverting the course of
justice.
Ashley Blake, 40, who presents Midlands Today, denied attacking Greg Jones,
17, outside his Place 2 B bar in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, in January.
He was cleared of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The judge at Birmingham Crown Court warned the presenter he could face a
custodial sentence.
Blake was remanded on bail and sentencing was set for September 2.
A BBC spokesman said: "Ashley has been found guilty of serious offences and
we will need time to carefully consider the findings of the court before
taking action."
Blake, who also presents Inside Out, told the court he used the pole as a
"bat" to ward off bottles and other missiles thrown at him by up to 30
people.
The court heard he ran to fetch the pole - measuring about 3ft long and
one-and-a-half inches wide - from behind the bar after customer Steven
Sproule punched 17-year-old Adam Finn in the face, leaving him unconscious
on the ground.
Sproule, 38, of Booths Farm Road, Great Barr, Birmingham, admitted assault
occasioning actual bodily harm.
The court heard that Mr Finn's friends became upset following the attack and
that Mr Jones was trying to calm the situation when he was injured by Blake.
He suffered injuries to his lip and his chin.
Blake was arrested at the scene and, when interviewed by police, denied
wielding the pole.
He changed his story when shown CCTV footage of him fetching the pole from
behind the bar.
Blake admitted to the court that he lied to police, saying he was in a state
of shock following the incident.

Australian DJ Sacked Over Rape Interview
One of the judges of Australian Idol has been dropped from
the show after an on air stunt on his radio show resulted in a teenage girl
revealing she had been raped.
DJ and Australian Idol judge Kyle Sandilands is famed for his shock jock
stunts
Australia's Network Ten has announced that Kyle Sandilands will no longer
work with the TV talent show, which he had judged for four years.
The DJ has been under fire since last week when a 14-year-old girl was
hooked up to a lie detector and asked about her sexual history, at her
mother's request on Sandiland's radio show the Kyle and Jackie O Show on
2Say FM.
In the stunt the young girl broke down after her mother
quizzed her about whether she was sexually active, despite knowing she had
been assaulted.
"I've already told you the story about this, and don't look at me and smile
because it's not funny," said the girl, who was strapped to a polygraph
machine.
"Oh OK, I got raped when I was 12 years old," she said.
Sandilands further outraged listeners when he asked: "Right, and is that the
only sexual experience you've had?"
His co-host, Jackie O, then stepped in and ended the segment.
The show had been taken off air indefinitely pending a review.
The incident prompted the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, to add to the barrage
of criticism.
"This is really off. It's wrong, shouldn't be done," he said.
"This is a young girl and I am, as I think most Australians are, really
distressed at the way in which the young person has been treated in this
way."
The New South Wales state government ordered child welfare officers and
police to investigate the girl's rape claim.
Sandilands, famed for his shock jock persona, including stunts such as
drinking breast milk and launching a competition to find Sydney's smallest
penis, apologised but said he had "no idea" about the girl's past.
A statement from the radio station said Sandilands was "unable to perform
his on-air duties at this time".
As for his role as a judge on Australian Idol, Ten programming boss David
Mott said: "Obviously culminating with events of last week, we have made the
decision that Kyle will no longer be a judge on Australian Idol.
"Australian Idol is very much a family program and its appeal is very much
right across the board and we'd like to think that all families can enjoy
the program in front of the TV."

BBC Chief
Will Not Be Investigated
The controller of BBC One will not be investigated for her
involvement in running a media company which makes money teaching the
Corporation's own presenters, chiefs have said.
Jay Hunt is company secretary of BrightsparkTV, which is
owned by her husband and has a reported annual turnover of £117,000.
Despite criticism of close links between one of the BBC's highest-ranking
managers and a company benefiting from Corporation contracts, a BBC
spokesman said there was no case to answer.
He said: "The BBC's rigorous conflict of interest policy lays down strict
procedures to prevent an actual conflict of interest arising. Where
executives have a close relationship with someone in a company we are doing
significant business with, they may not play a role in the decision making
process related to the award of any such business, including any commercial
sum agreed."
BrightsparkTV was founded by Hunt and her husband Ian Blandford and has a
contract with the BBC to coach staff and uses the corporation's studios, the
paper reported.
Blandford has presented a number of BBC property programmes, although he is
not a BBC employee.
Hunt has more viewers and a bigger budget than any other channel controller
in the UK.
Ed Vaizey, the Conservative broadcasting spokesman, said: "The BBC must
ensure that its staff are open about any potential conflicts of interest and
that the systems are in place to ensure that arrangements like this are
above board."
