Former Radio 2 Presenter Dies

Former BBC Radio 2 presenter Malcolm Laycock died on Sunday, his agent said today.

Mr Laycock left Sunday Night at 10 - a programme dedicated to music of the 1930s and 40s - in the summer after spending 14 years as its presenter.

His decision - due in part to disagreements with the station - prompted outrage among his listeners.

Bob Shennan, controller of Radio 2 and 6 Music, said Mr Laycock's former colleagues were "shocked and saddened" to hear of his death.

"Malcolm was a much-loved and highly respected broadcaster, renowned for his skill as a presenter and producer, and his passion for music and radio," he said.

Mr Laycock's radio career spanned four decades, during which he worked on Radio 2, BBC London and the BBC World Service as well as helping to set up London's Jazz FM.

He was awarded a Sony Radio Award for his programme Billie Holiday In Her Own Words.

Max Clifford Thinks Twins Have A Future

Publicist Max Clifford thinks X Factor hopefuls John and Edward should set their sights on a television presenting job - like younger versions of Ant and Dec.

He thinks they are entertaining and a part of the reason the latest X Factor series has been so successful so far.

The PR guru - who manages Simon Cowell, amongst others - says the Dublin twins should work on getting a manager familiar with the TV business.

Ofcom Rules Spoof Ad Too Graphic

Media watchdog Ofcom has ruled that a spoof car advert shown on BBC Two's motoring show Top Gear was too graphic for the time of its broadcast.

The mock advert, which featured a man committing suicide by shooting himself in the head, prompted 50 complaints.

The BBC argued that the advert, shown before the 21:00 watershed on August 2, was "ludicrous and obviously comic".

But Ofcom found the programme in breach of its guidelines, saying it "exceeded audience expectations".

The spoof suicide, it ruled, was both "graphically depicted" and "potentially disturbing" and was not editorially justified.

A warning had not been given before the programme, which also included a mock advert featuring a man with a severed arm in a hospital waiting room.

Ofcom also noted that the scene showing the man shooting himself was edited out when the programme was repeated on BBC Two at an earlier time.

Garry Glitter Threatens To Sue

Former pop star Garry Glitter has threatened to sue if Channel 4 goes ahead with the transmission of its programme The Execution of Garry Glitter, scheduled for tonight.

The programme is set in an imaginary Britain where politicians have reintroduced the death penalty for certain crimes. Gary Glitter, or Paul Gadd, played by Hilton McRae, faces the hangman after his child sex convictions.

Although the production is a drama,  real people, such as Ann Widdecombe, Miranda Sawyer and Garry Bushell appear, treating the situation as if it is authentic.

Lawyers for Paul Gadd - fear the programme puts Glitter back in the spotlight against his will, and have written to Channel 4 demanding it be withdrawn.

Gadd was jailed in Vietnam in 2005 for sexually assaulting two young girls. He was released in 2008 and returned to his native Britain.
