Children In Need Tops £20m

The BBC Children in Need appeal total has reached £20,309,747 at the end of the Friday night seven-hour TV show - just short of the amount raised at the same stage last year.

Among the highlights of this year's show were the BBC newsreaders, who put on a Beyonce-style dance routine.

Kate Silverton, Susanna Reid, Sophie Raworth and Fiona Bruce swapped pinstriped suits for bling as they performed the American diva's hits Crazy In Love and Single Ladies.

Silverton said later: "It was so out of our comfort zone, but it was worth it."

Adrian Chiles joined fellow presenters from The One Show for a gaudy rendition of Fame. Another unlikely sight was the Dragons' Den team donning hard hats and overalls to help renovate a Children in Need community centre in London.

The cast of Doctor Who, Strictly Come Dancing and EastEnders were also involved.

Paul O'Grady's Buster Is Dead

Buster, the dog belonging to TV host Paul O'Grady, is dead.

The pet, who was 14 years old, was a regular on O'Grady's Channel 4 show, perching on the desk throughout the programme.

He had been ill with cancer and was put to sleep yesterday.

A spokeswoman said: "Paul is absolutely devastated. It all happened suddenly. Buster had been suffering and in a lot of pain. Putting him down was the kind thing to do."

Buster retired from the show last week. O'Grady will pay tribute to his pet on Monday's programme.

Paul, I really do feel your loss, Buster was a luvly dog and me and my mum, husband used to watch him every day as well as u cos i think u r brilliant. We thin what u do 4 homeless dogs is brilliant as years ago we got one from rspca and she was brilliant and when she died we were distraught. Anyway hope yu soon feel better as u have got olga, louis and bullseye but i am sure they will never take the pain away. God bless u and Buster

I thought the Heading here was a little insensitive even though it is true. Would it not have been more compassionate to have said "Buster has died"?
