Will Mellor To Star In BBC
Three Comedy Will Mellor is to star in a
new BBC Three comedy called White Van Man, which is being made by
ITV Studios.
The six-part comedy is being written by Adrian
Poynton, winner of the 2003 Fringe First award for A Very Naughty
Boy, and also stars Clive Mantle.
The sitcom sees former Hollyoaks actor Mellor play
Ollie, who, when his dad suffers a heart attack, is forced to put
his dream of running a restaurant on hold to take over the family
painting and decorating business.
ITV Studios creative director of comedy Saurabh
Kakkar said: “It’s a real slice of modern working life, full of
warmth and great gags and reinforces what a huge talent Will Mellor
is. It’s also the first narrative created by writer and stand-up
Adrian Poynton, and we’re really proud, along with BBC3, to be
developing new talent in this way.”
BBC commissioning editor Simon Lupton said Poynton
had created “a heart-warming world that can deliver big laughs, and
characters you quickly fall in love with”.
“It’s rare to find a new writer who can write with
such confidence, and with such a strong team beside him we firmly
believe White Van Man will be a treat for the viewers,” he added.

BBC U2 Complaints
The BBC's editorial complaints unit has ruled that the
broadcaster breached its own guidelines in its coverage of U2's latest
album, No Line on the Horizon.
The unit said that an on-screen graphic with the slogan
"U2=BBC" gave an "inappropriate impression of endorsement", while a
reference to the broadcaster being "part of launching this new album" during
an interview was also ruled as inappropriate.
The rulings followed an official complaint made by commercial
radio body The RadioCentre about the amount of coverage U2 received at the
album's launch in February.
Complaints about an edition of Jo Whiley's Radio 1 show and an online report
of U2's rooftop set at the BBC were not upheld.
