Channel 4 Million Pound Quiz

Contestants could lose £1 million in a new Channel 4 gameshow, it was revealed today.

Participants are given the sum at the start of the show, which will be broadcast live from a secret secure location, but will have to watch their cash disappear down trapdoors if they fail to answer questions correctly.

Channel 4 has commissioned the show, provisionally entitled The Drop, from Endemol, the TV company behind Big Brother, which is gearing up for its final series this summer.

Contestants will be chosen from social networking websites and even other Channel 4 programmes in what producers say will "revolutionise how TV gameshows are cast".

The Drop will go out over a week next year, with viewers watching the show one day and live in the secret location hoping to take home £1 million the next.

Remarkable Television, which is part of Endemol, said: "The Drop is a big money game show with extraordinary jeopardy.

"Contestants are given their prize - £1 million in cash - at the top of the show. For the first time contestants will be winning big - or losing it all - live on TV.

"On each question our contestants face four trapdoors. One wrong move could see their money literally drop through the floor."

The story of the former Northern Ireland Secretary’s battle with cancer and her efforts to unite the North's leaders had a peak audience of 3.7 million viewers, according to overnight ratings.

A spokeswoman said it was Channel 4’s highest rating drama since at least 2001.

Jonathan Ross In Touch With Channel 4

Channel 4 has confirmed it is "in touch" with Jonathan Ross over his post-BBC career, the TV channel has confirmed.

Ross, 49, announced last month that he would leave the BBC when his contract ends in July.

Channel 4's head of programmes, Julian Bellamy, has expressed an interest in bringing him back to the station where he made his debut.

"I'm a huge fan," he told a newspaper. "Certainly we are in touch, and let's see where it goes."

"I think he is a brilliant talent," Bellamy continued. "He's a friend of the channel.

"It would be wrong for me to go into too much detail, but I would certainly say that we've been in touch.

"We know Jonathan well... so let's see what happens."

Ross's first TV job was as a researcher on Channel 4 chat show Loose Talk, in 1981.

Macpherson said: “I am really enthusiastic and motivated to work with the team of Britain’s Next Top Model...We are looking forward to finding the face that can represent the next generation.”

Radio 1 To Launch Midweek Chart

A new weekly midweek "official chart update" is set to launch on BBC Radio 1.

The half-hour show beginning on March 10 will air every Wednesday between 15:30 and 16:00 in the run-up to the traditional Sunday chart countdown.

Up until now official midweek chart numbers have been issued to workers in the industry but not broadcast in this format.

Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company, said: "The launch of this official chart update will mean that, for the first time, music fans will get a reliable insight into how the race for number one is shaping up."

The update will be based on the "sales flashes" which are already circulated by the Official Charts Company to the music industry on Wednesday mornings.

Greg James will be hosting the new weekly show. He said: "I want to shine a light on all the songs going in and dropping out of the charts.

"Why are people buying a specific record? Why aren't they buying that one? Reasons like that."

Five Interested In Celebrity Big Brother

Celebrity Big Brother could find a new home on Channel Five.

Channel 4 will finish its connection with the reality show after Big Brother 11 in the summer.

However, Five has now shown interest in the celebrity version of the show.

Richard Woolfe, controller of Five, said: "Of course we'd be interested."

Woolfe, added that they would be less sure of taking on the original non-celebrity version of the show.

He said: "The main show probably needs to go away and be rejuvenated."

Tim Hincks, chief executive officer of the show's production company Endemol, said: "We're focused on making a brilliant show for Channel 4 this summer.

"I've no idea what we'll be doing in a couple of years' time."

The final Channel 4 Celebrity Big Brother has just ended with cagefighter Alex Reid taking the top spot.
