Dance Finalist Pulls Out

BBC One's So You Think You Can Dance finalist Robbie White has been forced to pull out of the show after he dislocated his shoulder during a practice session.

White, one of four finalists, was told the injury could take months to heal.

Previous contestants will step in for White on partnered dances. The remaining three finalists are Lizzie Gough, Tommy Franzen and Charlie Bruce.

The winner of the BBC One Talent show will get £100,000 and the chance to perform on the US version of the show.

Talking about his injury, White said: "The doctor said it would probably be months before I could move the arm again," he added.

"As a dancer we know what our bodies can do, and I will push to be back and fit and dancing as soon as I can."

Saturday's final is the culmination of a seven-week search for the UK's best amateur dancer.

"It will be very hard being there and not being part of it," said White "But I definitely want to be there, to come out and have a chance to say my piece, say thanks."

New Channel 4 Comedy

Channel 4 has commissioned a full series of a comedy starring Tamsin Greig and Simon Bird called Friday Night Dinner.

A pilot of the show was originally commissioned for E4, but has not yet been screened.

The episode will now be part of the full series, which will be shown on Channel 4.

Each episode takes place over the course of a Friday night, as brothers Adam and Jonny - played by Bird and Tom Rosenthal respectively - go to their parents’ house for dinner.

Friday Night Dinner has been created by Robert Popper, who wrote and produced the BBC Two comedy Look Around You, and is being made by Big Talk Productions.

Channel 4 commissioning editor Darren Smith said: “Friday Night Dinner is a brilliantly funny, fresh and well observed take on family life with something of a dream cast – an irresistible commission from Robert’s pilot.”

Popper, who is a former commissioning editor for comedy at Channel 4, said: “I want the show to capture the way we all revert to being kids again when we go round to our parents.”

The South Bank Show Revisited

Melvyn Bragg is to make an exclusive season of ten films, under the banner of The South Bank Show Revisited, featuring new interviews with a number of subjects from past South Bank Shows.

The South Bank Show was axed last year after Peter Fincham, the director of television, channels and online, made what Bragg described as an "offer I couldn't accept" over budget cuts.

Bragg presented the final edition of the show, which he launched in 1978, on  December 28, on the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Prince Charles criticised the decision to drop the show saying: "The programme remains without rival and a long time ago it rightly became an important contribution to the vibrancy of the country's culture."

In the new series, Bragg will interview Andrew Lloyd Webber, Ian McKellen, Ian McEwan, Stephen Sondheim, Billy Connolly, Kiri Te Kanawa and Judi Dench amongst others, and each new film will be inter-cut with the subject’s original South Bank Shows, and in some of the episodes there will be material drawn from the series’ films on other artists within each of their genres.

The series will consist of ten programmes.

Question Time With Dermot O'Leary

X Factor host Dermot O'Leary is to host a special Question Time for young people, ahead of this year's general election.

O'Leary will host First Time Voters' Question Time on BBC Three, to be broadcast on March 3.

The audience of first-time voters will question a panel of representatives from "the main political parties".

The names of the politicians taking part in the programme will be finalised nearer the time.

Danny Cohen, controller of BBC Three, said: "BBC Three has a unique role to play as the only youth-targeted British television channel with a regular and passionate commitment to current affairs.

"We have exciting plans to cover the build-up to the general election, and are keen to engage young people who may not typically watch political coverage.

"We're delighted to have Dermot O'Leary as our host for this programme. He is passionate about politics and hugely popular with young people."
