Cambridge Community Station
To Close
Cambridge-based community radio station 209radio has
announced it will close at the end of the month.
The station was saved from closure in November when a donor
responed to on-air call for urgent funding.
A message on the station's website tells listeners: "It is
with deep sadness that we inform our listeners and supporters that 209radio
will close at the end of February.
"We've had nearly 7 years of learning, music, laughter and tears,
broadcasting on the web, from venues and on your FM dial.
"With what resources we've been able to use in an increasingly tough
environment, we're confident that we've enriched the Cambridge airwaves with
new programming and touched the lives of many with that content.
"On the shop floor, we have helped individuals and groups grow and achieve
great things.
"But the time isn't right, just now, for sustainable Community Radio in
Cambridge."
EastEnders Merchandise
Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of EastEnders, BBC
Worldwide has signed a deal with Blackstone Design to produce a range of
men’s and women’s t-shirts based on some of the show’s iconic Walford
residents.
The move sees the first licence granted by BBC Worldwide to produce official
EastEnders product since 2005.
The t-shirts will be produced through Blackstone's Two Bucks and Tee & Cake
labels, making lines for men and women respectively, and are being targeted
towards key fashion retailers.
Initial designs – which feature some of the show's most infamous characters
including Frank Butcher, the Mitchell brothers and Dot Cotton – will be
available from March, 2010.
BBC Worldwide is also looking at developing lines featuring Dirty Den and
Arthur Fowler – one of the original 23 characters from the soap.

Peter Andre Wants O'Grady Show
Peter Andre has said he would love to replace Paul O'Grady on
his five o'clock chat show on Channel 4.
The singer and TV presenter refused to confirm rumours he was set to step
into O'Grady's shoes but admitted the position was his dream job.
Peter wrote in his column in New magazine: "I can't really comment on this
just yet, but I will say that I loved filling in for him back in November -
it was such a laugh and I've always hoped to do more television presenting
in the future... in fact, it would be my dream job."

Tim Lovejoy - Blue Peter
Presenter
Tim Lovejoy will finally fulfil his dream of fronting an
episode of Blue Peter - 12 years after being turned down for a presenting
job on the show.
The BBC children's programme is introducing guest presenters
for the first time in its 52-year history to help Sport Relief.
Tim Lovejoy is to host an episode of Blue Peter for Sport Relief
They will step into Helen Skelton's shoes as she continues her epic 2,010
mile kayak down the Amazon River in aid of the charity.
Lovejoy auditioned to be a Blue Peter presenter in 1998 - but Simon Thomas
eventually landed the job - filling the vacancy left by Richard Bacon.
Something for the Weekend host Lovejoy will present Blue Peter on Tuesday
next week, along with another guest presenter, Angelica Bell.
Lovejoy said: "Despite being turned down back in 1998, I am
delighted that Blue Peter has asked me to stand in for Helen Skelton while
she kayaks down the Amazon.
"I auditioned for Blue Peter years ago when I first started presenting, but
I don't think my 'make' skills were quite up to scratch!
"I'm not doing anything quite as courageous as Helen for Sport Relief but I
will be running the Sport Relief Mile on Sunday March 21."
Last week, Skelton reached the half-way point in her epic 2,010 mile kayak
down the Amazon River, tripling the Guinness World Record for the longest
solo journey by kayak.
A full round up of Skelton's challenge will be shown in two Blue Peter
episodes on March 16 and 17, in the lead up to the Sport Relief Weekend,
which takes place from March 19 to 21.

No Regrets For
Broadcaster Who Killed Lover

A BBC presenter has told TV viewers he carried out a
mercy killing on a former lover who was suffering from Aids.
Ray Gosling, 70, revealed he had smothered the
unnamed partner as he lay in hospital "in terrible, terrible pain".
Speaking on the BBC East Midlands' Inside Out
programme, the broadcaster said: "Maybe this is the time to share a
secret that I have kept for quite a long time. I killed someone
once... He was a young chap, he'd been my lover and he got Aids."
Strolling through a graveyard for a segment of the
show about death, he broke down as he recalled the day he took his
lover's life.
He said: "In a hospital one hot afternoon, the
doctor said, 'There's nothing we can do', and he was in terrible,
terrible pain. I said to the doctor, 'Leave me just for a bit' and
he went away.
"I picked up the pillow and smothered him until he
was dead. The doctor came back and I said, 'He's gone'. Nothing more
was ever said."
Gosling, a freelance broadcaster of hundreds of
radio and TV documentaries, said he had no regrets about his
actions, adding: "When you love someone, it is difficult to see them
suffer. We'd got an agreement, if it got worse, the pain, and nobody
could do anything. He was in terrible pain, I was there and I saw
it. It breaks you into pieces."
Gosling was a guest this morning on BBC One's BBC
Breakfast and said he had no regrets about his actions.
Speaking about his partner he said: "He would have
been so grateful for what I did.
"If there was a heaven and he was looking down he
would be proud that I said after all these years, yes... yes... I
ended it."
Police have confirmed they are liaising with the
police following the confession.
Dr Peter Saunders, from Care Not Killing, said
Gosling's account sounded like a case "not of assisted suicide but
of intentional killing or murder".
He said: "It's rather bizarre this was filmed more than two months
ago and the BBC has been sitting on it and hasn't informed the
police and the case hasn't been investigated.
"At the moment all we have is Ray's word there was a pact and it
wasn't clear from his description whether his lover even wanted to
be killed or asked to be.
"It's not up to us as the viewing public, on the basis of one very
brief selective testimony, to draw conclusions on what might be a
very complex case.
"That's why it's so important all these cases be fully investigated
so the true facts can come out."
