Whitechapel II
Filming has begun on the second series of the serial drama,
Whitechapel, starring Rupert Penry-Jones, Phil Davis, and Steve Pemberton
produced by Carnival Films for ITV1.
The principal cast will be joined by Peter Serafinowicz, who plays DCI
Cazenove and Craig Parkinson, who plays twins, Jimmy and Johnny Kray.
Whitechapel II once again draws on a set of iconic cult crimes born out of
the area.
After Jack the Ripper comes the gangster brutality of the
Krays, and in Whitechapel II the paranoia of this era and the faded glamour
of the former East End overlords will characterise the drama.
Returning to write the second series are Ben Court and Caroline Ip and Sally
Woodward Gentle will executive produce the series.
Woodward Gentle said, “Whitechapel II will be as sharp, intense and as
visually distinctive as the first series with the gangster culture of the
Krays never far away. Once again the streets of Whitechapel yield an
extraordinary story and we are delighted, if slightly scared, to be going
back there again.”

BBC Loses Football
Commentary Packages
Commercial broadcaster TalkSport has snatched two football
commentary packages from BBC Radio 5 live.
Adrian Van Klaveren, controller for 5 live, said he was
"delighted" to retain four other football packages.
But he said there would be "significantly less" Premiership football on the
network next season.
"We will need to work hard to compensate for this, including thinking about
what this means for parts of our programme schedule," added Van Klaveren.
Of the football coverage 5 live has regained the rights to, he said: "We
know how important live football, above all the Premier League, is to our
audience so it is very good news that we will continue to offer 5 live
listeners the fullest football coverage."
Commercial broadcaster Absolute Radio, meanwhile, was awarded second choice
Saturday afternoon matches at the expense of TalkSport.

BBC Presenter
Bailed
Broadcaster Ray Gosling, who said in a BBC television
programme that he had killed his terminally ill lover, has been released on
police bail.
Mr Gosling, 70, was arrested on Wednesday morning on suspicion of murder
after his comments were aired on the BBC's Inside Out programme.
In Monday's documentary he said he had smothered the man, who he said was
dying of Aids.
His solicitor said his client had not named the individual to police.
Speaking after his release Gosling's solicitor Digby Johnson said: "He needs
some time just to sit and think it all through in the light of everything
that's happened.
"It will be some days before he can say for sure whether he thinks it was a
good idea or not.
"He's very surprised by the attention that it has drawn. Ray thought that
this was a fairly short item on a regional TV programme and it really
wouldn't cause many ripples.
"The very magnitude of the attention really has taken him
aback and has given him cause for thought."
It would appear it will be a complex inquiry, the police are interviewing a
number of witnesses and going through a lot of documents.
"He now has to take time to order his thoughts and emotions," Johnson
said.
When previously asked whether his client had made the whole story up Digby
added: "It has been said and it is something about which there has been some
speculation."

Dean Gaffney
EastEnders actor Dean Gaffney hopes Peggy Mitchell will turn
out to be Archie Mitchell's killer.
The culprit will be revealed in a live EastEnders episode
tomorrow celebrating 25 years of the show.
Gaffney, who plays Robbie Jackson, said: "Personally, I'd like it to be
Peggy Mitchell - I wouldn't want it to be Ronnie (Samantha Womack) because I
feel killing your father is quite a serious thing to do."
He went on: "I know he hasn't been much of a dad but you still have that
bond however nasty he's been. But he's been a g*t to Peggy and I think it
will be well deserved if it's her. Also Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden)
because she's his mum. I don't think he has been nasty enough to anyone else
for them to want to kill him."
The actor is back in EastEnders again this week for Bianca Jackson's (Patsy
Palmer) wedding to Ricky Butcher (Sid Owen), but won't be in the live
episode.
The latest odds from William Hill put Sean Slater (Rob Kazinsky), who is no
longer in the show, as the favourite to be the murderer at 4/7.
Ryan Malloy (Neil McDermott) is second favourite at 11/2, and Jack Branning
(Scott Maslen) and Peggy both have odds of 9/1.

Taggart
STV has reached a deal with ITV securing the future of police
drama Taggart after months of uncertainty.
STV, which makes the programme, confirmed the deal which means viewers will
see six new episodes of the long-running show.
The episodes will be shown in Scotland on STV later this year and then shown
on ITV1 in the rest of the UK in 2011.
STV had already said it would make a new series of the programme even if ITV
decided against it.
Under the deal, the cost of Taggart will be met jointly by STV and ITV - up
until now ITV simply commissioned STV to make it.
STV will get to show the new episodes first on its station which is
broadcast in central and northern Scotland.
ITV1 will screen it in the rest of the UK next year with the digital channel
Alibi able to repeat them later.
The series will begin filming in Glasgow in the spring.
Alan Clements, director of content at STV, said: "Taggart is a fantastic
brand and we're very pleased to be working with ITV and UKTV on six new
episodes of this hugely popular show.
"With three partners investing in the series, we're confident of delivering
a very high quality production for viewers.
"STV is totally committed to Taggart and to drama, and we're thrilled to be
showing the first run of all six programmes for viewers in Scotland.
"This commission is great news for fans of the show and for STV, and it will
also deliver significant investment into the Scottish creative economy in
2010."
