PM To
Allow Cameras In Court
David Cameron is poised to allow some court sentencing to be
televised, it has been reported.
Broadcasting from courts in tightly controlled circumstances is being looked
at by the Government after renewed calls from broadcasters.
The Prime Minister will unveil plans to allow cameras in court for judges'
sentencing of offenders, according to The Guardian.
This evening a Number 10 spokesman repeated a statement made yesterday by
the Ministry of Justice which said: "We are considering proposals put
forward by broadcasters to allow limited recording and transmission from
courts in specific circumstances.
"However, before any firm proposals are developed, the Lord Chancellor will
wish to consult on the principle of broadcasting from court with the senior
judiciary."

Channel
4 Tsunami Documentary
Channel 4 has commissioned ITN Productions to make Japan's
Tsunami: Caught on Camera, a 1 x 60-minute documentary that captures the
devastating impact of the earthquake and tsunami - using amateur footage
filmed by those caught up in the disaster.
Featuring never-before-seen footage, the programme features accounts from
eyewitnesses and amateur photographers and filmmakers, taking them back to
the locations where they filmed the tsunami, and examines the reasons why
the instinct to record is often as strong as the instinct to survive.
The film follows previous Channel 4 films, the Bafta
-nominated Tsunami: Caught on Camera (2009) and Hurricane Katrina: Caught on
Camera (2010) which provided poignant portraits of those disasters via the
people who actually experienced it first-hand.

TV Million Winner Tells Of Jail Past
The first millionaire winner of ITV's new game show Red or
Black? has served time in prison for attacking another man, it has been
reported.

Nathan Hageman picked up £1 million on the roulette-themed show backed by
Simon Cowell and hosted by Ant and Dec on Saturday.
Both the Sun and Daily Mirror newspapers reported that Hageman, a
31-year-old bricklayer from Reading, was jailed for five years for attacking
his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend after breaking into his flat.
Hageman told The Sun that he had started getting threatening calls from a
man in Reading.
"I tried to brush it off but he kept saying he was going to harm me. One
night he told me my address and said he was going to come round and batter
me in front of my mum and niece Mya, who was only about two."
Hageman said he asked the police to help, but was told only to let them know
if matters became more serious. He took matters into his own hands and one
night went round to the man's house, broke in, and beat him up. He said: "I
was an idiot for doing it, I know, but that's the state of mind I was in.
"He wasn't seriously hurt, but he made a complaint and I was arrested. I was
charged with aggravated burglary and ABH. I pleaded guilty straight away as
I knew what I'd done was wrong. I got five years."
He served two and a half years in HMP Bullingdon in Oxfordshire before being
released in 2009, the newspaper said. He was put on licence for the
remainder of his term, which expired just before he applied to be on the
programme this year.
A spokesman for the organisation Media Watch told the Mirror: "It is
staggering they knew about his past and still allowed him on the show. What
message does this send to victims of crime?"
An ITV spokesman told the newspapers: "We were aware Nathan has served a two
and a half-year sentence in prison."

Praise - 50 Years
In 1961 the first ever Songs Of Praise came from the
Tabernacle Welsh Baptist Church in Cardiff.
On Sunday, September 18, for the first of three special
BBC One programmes to mark its 50th anniversary, Songs Of Praise – 50 Years Ago
turns the clock back as Pam Rhodes returns to the chapel to join the
congregation as they sing the hymns chosen for that first broadcast.
A children's choir recreates the ever-popular hymn All Things Bright And
Beautiful; there's a performance from Welsh soprano Elin Manahan Thomas;
former presenter Geoffrey Wheeler talks about his role; and Sir Cliff
Richard recalls life in the Sixties when Songs Of Praise was in its infancy.
