Betty's Farewell

A number of Coronation Street favourites are set to make a one-off return to the soap for Betty Driver's onscreen send-off, according to reports.

The Sunday Mirror said that Jean Alexander (Hilda Ogden), Julie Goodyear and Roy Barraclough (Bet and Alec Gilroy), Sarah Lancashire (Raquel Watts) and Cheryl Murray (Suzie Birchall) are among those who could appear, as show boss Phil Collinson said he would do "something brilliant and magnificent" to bid the actress farewell.

And Everton Football Club chairman Bill Kenwright, who used to play Betty's son Gordon, is also set to appear, announcing to residents of Weatherfield that his mother has passed away.

Driver, who played barmaid Betty Williams (Turpin) on the show for more than 42 years, died earlier this month aged 91.

"It is one of the most spectacular episodes to have ever been discussed for someone’s final farewell," a source close to the show told the paper.
