Jason Attacks Swearing On TV
Sir David Jason has hit out at the amount of swearing,
violence and sexual images that children are exposed to on television.
The actor said that he found it impossible to protect his 10-year-old
daughter from some of the content, because it was so prolific.
He told the Christmas Radio Times that he was attracted to his new role in
BBC One's The Royal Bodyguard because it was 'safe' enough for family
viewing.
Sir David, 71, said of his daughter Sophie: "I try to protect what she sees
on television, but you can't.
"Take the adverts - I was watching SpongeBob, a favourite cartoon of ours,
but suddenly a scent advert came on with this girl stripping off as she
walks towards the camera.
"It's done for mums, but they forget a lot of girls are watching these
powerful images."
He added: "There wasn't much on telly the other night so with Sophie and her
friend we watched Laurel and Hardy, made in the 1930s, and these kids
laughed like drains.
"That's humour - doing what funny people have done since comedy began
without being edgy and pushing boundaries."
The veteran TV star added: "The trouble now is we have stand-up comedians
who have forgotten about innuendo."

Hitchcock Drama
For BBC
Toby Jones will play Alfred Hitchcock in a single film that
tells the full story of his obsessive relationship with Tippi Hedren played
by Sienna Miller.
Supported by Imelda Staunton as Alma Hitchcock and Penelope Wilton as Peggy
Robertson - Hitchcock’s loyal assistant. Writer Gwyneth Hughes has
interviewed Tippi Hedren and surviving members of Hitchcock’s crew at
length.
Hughes, said: "It's been the most enormous privilege to talk at length to
Tippi Hedren, the last "Hitchcock blonde" in the life of Britain's most
original and successful film director. At the time, in the early 1960s, the
American star suffered in silence. But now, at the age of 81, her wisdom and
insights have helped me to put her real life ordeal on to the screen.
"I know Tippi is absolutely thrilled, as I am, with the casting of Sienna
Miller to play her, and when the two of them met recently they got on like a
house on fire. I've loved Toby Jones' work for years and for me, he is the
perfect choice to play the tormented genius, Alfred Hitchcock. With Imelda
Staunton and Penelope Wilton agreeing to play the other two women in his
life, it's my dream cast, and I couldn't be happier."
Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning said: “This wonderful
film is a riveting psychological portrait of Alfred Hitchcock's obsession
with Tippi Hedron, and in Toby Jones and Sienna Miller we have dream casting
to bring this to life with glorious veracity.”

John Craven
Documentary
The 40-year career of broadcaster John Craven is to be
celebrated in a special documentary profile, to be aired on BBC Two on
Christmas Eve.
The John Craven Years will look at the 71-year-old's time on Newsround,
which won a Children's Bafta last month.
It will also cover his years on BBC One's Multi-Coloured Swap Shop through
to his current role on Countryfile.
Noel Edmonds, Martin Bell and the impressionist Jon Culshaw are among those
who will appear on the programme.
A 45-minute version of the documentary will air on December 24, to be
followed by an extended hour-long version five days later.
As he accepted Newround's special Bafta last month, the broadcaster said he
was "terribly proud" of the show he presented from April 1972 to June 1989.
Yet he did concede he found it strange "when people who I think look pretty
old come up to me and say, 'Thank you for being part of my childhood'."
