Live Titanic

The story of the Titanic is to be recreated in a live
broadcast marking the centenary of the liner's sinking.
Tales of those who built and sailed the ship will be retold through
orchestral performances, a choir and documentary and archive footage to be
presented at Belfast's Waterfront Hall.
The event will be televised live across the UK on BBC Two on April 14, the
night the ill-fated boat sank on her maiden voyage in the north Atlantic
with the loss of more than 1,500 lives a hundred years ago.
Malcolm Gerrie, one of the producers, said: "The sinking of the Titanic was
arguably the first global media story. Certainly her loss is a legendary
event in maritime history. So to be able to stage this event on the very
night disaster struck 100 years ago - and only yards from where Titanic was
designed, built and launched - is hugely poignant."
The line-up of artists will be announced in the new year. The 90-minute show
was commissioned by the BBC.
Gerrie, chief executive of Whizz Kid Entertainment which is jointly
producing the programme, said it was one of the most exciting events he had
ever been involved in.
"This commemoration presents a unique opportunity to bring together the very
best local and international talent to remember not just the lives lost on
that fateful night but the lives of all those who helped build what was, at
that time, the greatest moving man-made object on the planet."
