Room 101 Is Back

Room 101 returns in a prime-time slot for BBC One with new host Frank Skinner. The series will air weekly from Friday January 20.

This panel show meets talk show sees Frank refereeing three celebrities each week as they compete for his approval to banish their top peeve, annoyance, irritation or worst nightmare to the depths of Room 101 forever.

Frank Skinner said: “It’s recently become clear to me that people are at their most articulate and passionate when slagging stuff off. That’s the last time I type my name into Google. Still, that bodes well for the new, revamped series of Room 101. I’m really looking forward to hearing my guests wax lyrical about the people and things they hate most.”

Executive producer Jimmy Mulville commented: “We can’t wait to get this much loved show back on the air where it belongs. After seeing so many imitations over the past few years, it’s very pleasing to bring the real thing back and in a new version with Frank Skinner as host.”

Stargazing Live Returns

On Wednesday January 18, Dulverton in Somerset will attempt to become one of the first towns in the UK to have every single one of its lights turned off at the same time, as part of a BBC Two Stargazing Live demonstration.

There are 177 street lights in Dulverton making the night sky significantly brighter and making it much harder to see the stars. At roughly 20:15 on Wednesday (or at the sound of a unique set of church bells), the Stargazing Live team want everyone in Dulverton to turn off every single light in the town, giving people in the area the unique chance to take in the wonders of the night sky free of the effects of light pollution.

The lights will be switched off live on air to round off the three-night Stargazing Live series hosted by Professor Brian Cox and Dara O Briain.

Over the course of the three nights, starting January 16, the Stargazing Live team will be switching off lights across the country (at venues including the Eden Project and the Clifton Suspension Bridge) to demonstrate just how magical UK landmarks can look when light pollution is removed.

Following the series, school children across the country will get the chance to put their astronomy questions directly to one of the nation’s favourite science teachers, Professor Brian Cox.

Soap Actor Quits After 28 Years

One of the UK's longest serving soap opera actors is to leave after nearly 28 years.

Gwyn Elfyn plays shopkeeper Denzil Rees in Welsh language series Pobol y Cwm.

But after nearly three decades on the BBC Wales-produced programme, which means People of the Valley in English, Elfyn has decided to leave.

The show's producer has promised that Denzil's exit will be one of the biggest in the history of the programme.

Denzil's departure is being kept secret for the time being, but his last scenes promise to be solemn.

Elfyn has been involved in several important story lines during his time in Cwmderi, the fictional village where the show is set.

Series producer, Ynyr Williams, said it was a sad time for Pobol y Cwm.

"Every series needs big story lines and Denzil's exit will be one of the biggest in the history of the programme," he said.

Dancing On Ice - Singer Pulls Out

Chesney Hawkes has pulled out of Dancing On Ice after injuring himself during training.

The 'One and Only' singer had been due to take part in the ITV1 celebrity skating competition - which launches this Sunday - but has now left the competition to be replaced by former X Factor contestant Chico.

Chesney said: "I am gutted not to be taking part in Dancing on Ice. I was having a brilliant time and couldn't wait to finally be skating live on national TV!

"It wasn't even a spectacular fall, it was a slight stumble as I practiced with my skating partner. I think my children are the most disappointed they were so excited at the prospect of watching me skate.

"I'm determined to be back on the ice, I might not be able to appear in this series but hoping I will be able to appear in the show next year!"

Chico added: "Whilst I'm really excited about being part of the new series of Dancing on Ice it's not necessarily in the best of circumstances.

"I wish Chesney all the best and a speedy recovery. I will not just be skating for myself I will be skating for Chesney as well and do him proud."
