Masterchef Returns With New Format
BBC One's MasterChef will return next Tuesday for its eighth
series with a new format.
The new series will see 24 contestants chosen from a selection of amateur
chefs who are tasked with cooking a dish for judges Gregg Wallace and John
Torrode, with the group then whittled down to 12 via a series of challenges
including the infamous invention test.
Torrode said: "It's a new year, a new MasterChef, bundles of talent, huge
amounts of potential, amazing cooking - now the fight can begin."
Gregg added: MasterChef is back and the eighth series is very exciting.
We've got some fantastic talent cooking their hearts out in some truly
outstanding places. As we know, cooking does not get tougher than this."

BBC Strike Looms
Members of the BECTU union at BBC Birmingham have called a
24-hour strike over plans to move substantial amounts of production to
Bristol.
The strike, set to run from 15.30 on Wednesday January 18 until 15.30 the
following day, could hit productions including The Archers and Countryfile
and See Hear.
The BBC's dispute with BECTU arises from plans to move large parts of
production for TV and radio from Birmingham to Bristol in moves announced
last October as part of Delivering Quality First. Union members are
protesting at the plans and at the BBC's refusal to enter into negotiations.
Around half of the union's membership affected by the dispute voted
overwhelming last week in favour of strike action and action short of
strike.
BECTU has warned that further strike dates will be called if the BBC fails
to respond to the union's demand for talks.
