Channel 4 Acquires The New Normal

Channel 4 has acquired the UK premiere broadcast rights to The New Normal by writer Ryan Murphy.

The New Normal, is a new comedy about the "new normal" family starring Justin Bartha, Andrew Rannells and Ellen Barkin.

Convinced that a baby is the one thing missing from their fabulous life, Beverly Hills couple Bryan and David enlists the help of a surrogate in an effort to make their dream a reality. Enter Goldie, a Midwestern waitress and single mother looking to escape her dead-end life and small-minded grandmotherWith her 8-year-old daughter in tow, the beginnings of a family unit begin to form, which swiftly becomes the new normal.

Sharon Returns To Walford

Returning EastEnders character Sharon Watts makes her comeback to Albert Square - in her wedding dress.

The character, played once again by Letitia Dean, reappears in the show after apparently hot-footing it from her latest marriage ceremony to seek the help of Phil Mitchell.

Sharon is coming back to the show next month after seven years away as producers prepare to screen seven episodes during one explosive week.

Programme chiefs are keeping tight-lipped about the plot, but the first official pictures of Sharon returning to the soap show her in her white outfit.

And the BBC said she returns - during the week of August 13 - in "desperate need of Phil's help". And at the same time Phil's world begins to unravel as his girlfriend Shirley uncovers the truth about who killed her friend Heather.

Lorraine Newman, executive producer of the show, said: "An exciting week packed full of dramatic twists and turns lies ahead for the audience and the justice they have been desperately waiting for has finally arrived."

BBC One controller Danny Cohen said: "Following the Olympics on BBC One, viewers can look forward to more TV gold on the channel as EastEnders returns home for seven explosive episodes in one week and Sharon's dramatic return to the square. Not to be missed."

Doctor Who Actress Dies

Doctor Who actress Mary Tamm, who played companion Romana alongside Tom Baker, has died aged 62.

The actress, who was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, dies in hospital in London following a long battle with cancer .

Agent Barry Langford, who confirmed the news, said she had a "zest for life".

Tamm's stage and screen career also included films The Odessa File and The Likely Lads, as well as recurring roles in EastEnders and Brookside.

"She was a fantastic actress," said Langford, who was her agent for 22 years.

"She played stage parts of such range, parts that would take your breath away. She could play any role, and do so wonderfully."
